"I am a professional educator with experience teaching Kindergarten and First Grade. I also have three years of experience assisting in a childcare center. I received my degree in Elementary Education at NC State University and I am very familiar with North Carolina state standards and with Common Core curriculum. I greatly enjoy teaching phonics and foundational reading skills. I also enjoy supporting students in elementary math.

I believe that children learn best when they can play an active role in their learning. I try to make my lessons as interactive and engaging as possible, whether I am teaching a class of 20 or working with a student one-on-one. I believe that building a relationship with the student and their family is very important and I am passionate about creating an environment of support and positivity.

I have experience teaching Common Core math to elementary students and I use the required standards and objectives to create fun and engaging activities that provide a sense of meaning to the learning taking place. I am a huge fan of using manipulatives so students can physically manipulate objects to show the processes they are completing.

I have taught reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension in my previous classrooms and to students in a one-on-one tutoring environment. I regularly provide diagnostic and formative assessments to ensure students are reaching their goals and truly understanding concepts before moving on.

I have taught phonics with the Letterland curriculum and I have taught phonics with a different format which also provided students with a foundation to build upon. I believe that phonics learning is critical at a young age and it is crucial to becoming a proficient reader. Phonics learning is at the core of every subject and every task students will be asked to complete throughout school, so I am very passionate about building a strong phonics knowledge and understanding.
