"¡Hola! I’m a dedicated Spanish tutor with a background in both language instruction and cultural immersion. I hold a bachelor's degree in Communications with a minor in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where I took courses such as Hispanic Linguistics, Advanced Writing, Advanced Speaking & Listening, Spanish for Health Professionals, Literary Analysis, and many more. My journey with Spanish deepened when I studied abroad in Antigua, Guatemala, where I enhanced my language skills and experienced the rich culture firsthand. I also hold two ACTFL Spanish proficiency certificates in oral and written communication.
My teaching experience includes tutoring elementary students for a year and teaching Spanish 1 and 2 at the high school level (over the course of a few years), where I created my own curriculum and materials. My experience as an elementary tutor has strengthened my abilities to teach at a foundational level, while my high school teaching experience allowed me to dive deeper into teaching grammar, technical concepts, and conversational skills. As a certified charter school educator, I designed engaging lessons that fostered a love for language learning. I strive to make my sessions dynamic, interactive, and tailored to each student's strengths and interests.
While teaching in the classroom, I utilized many learning strategies based on students' strengths, needs, and interests; this ranged from games like Kahoot, Jeopardy, and Around the World, to a variety of videos, listening activities, reading and writing practice, partner work, creative projects, and group conversation activities. I made sure to give my students some one-on-one time with me as well to work on difficult concepts and pronunciation.
I believe language learning should be enjoyable and immersive. Whether you're just starting or looking to refine your Spanish skills, I would love to help you gain confidence and fluency in a supportive learning environment. Let's embark on this language journey together!" less...
