"Hello! My name is John, and I love teaching people to code! I'm an experienced and certified teacher, having recently taught computer science for two years at a high school in Houston, Texas. There, my students, aged 14 to 18, mastered fundamental computer science concepts, built basic webpages, and explored data structures and algorithms in Java.
As a tutor, I specialize in teaching data structures and algorithms/DSA, discrete mathematics, Python, Java, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, and high school CS 1 and CS 2.
I am not currently tutoring for security, operating systems, theory of computation, machine learning, or computer architecture.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in computer science from UT Austin and am a certified computer science teacher in Texas. I'm also proud to say that I recently (October 2024) earned my master's degree in computer science from Arizona State University, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I have a lifelong love of learning, and I hope to share my enthusiasm for coding and computer science with learners.
My personal approach to tutoring is to start by assessing a student's current level and needs. From there, I tailor my instruction to the individual student. For example, new coders will go over basic concepts and syntax before building projects they can show off and feel proud of. On the other hand, students preparing for a test will rigorously analyze and understand target concepts before drilling practice questions from various sources, receiving targeted feedback on each problem. For any student, I also like to know their goals and interests so that I can make the content engaging and relevant. This keeps my students highly motivated and eager to learn more!
Wherever you are on your coding journey, I'm here to guide you. Computer science and coding are challenging topics, but that challenge makes learners grow in ways that benefit them for life. If you're interested, please message me and we can set up a lesson!" less...
