"Hi, I'm Jessica! I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor's degree in English (focused in Secondary Education) and a minor in biology. I have over five years of tutoring experience both in and out of classrooms, focusing on the subjects of English, math, and biology. I've tutored students from elementary school all the way through high school and I love working with each diverse age group and learning styles. Additionally, I was a middle school teacher for three years. I taught two years of biology and one year of English.

When I was still in school, I learned best when I was extremely interested in the subject matter. I'm a strong believer that any subject can be made interesting with the right teacher, so my approach to tutoring is to make learning fun and engaging while strategically designing lessons to fit the individualized needs of the student. I also understand how powerful scaffolding (breaking down complex material into smaller, more comprehensible "chunks") is. When my students don't understand something, there is a great possibility that the issue lies at the fundamental level, so I often take a step back and start with the basics.
