"I am an educator known for my love of children. The joy I feel in watching them master a topic they struggled with, is why I am grateful to be an educator. Every child has the ability to soar, some just need help in opening their wings. I have always believed, there are things in life that I'm not certain of, but two things I know for sure. "I am an educator known for my love of children. The joy I feel in watching them master a topic they struggled with, is why I am grateful to be an educator. Every child has the ability to soar, some just need help in opening their wings. I have always believed, there are things in life that I'm not certain of, but two things I know for sure. I was meant to have the son that I was blessed with, and I was born to educate children.
I would like to share a little bit about my past. I was a special education teacher with the New York City Department of Education for over fifteen years. I planned on continuing my career until retirement, but my life took an unexpected turn. I was forced to take an indefinite leave of absence due to a car accident. I was physically unable to return to the classroom, but desperately wanted to continue teaching. My leave eventually brought me to Wyzant, and every day I am grateful for this journey.
There was a void in my life that I am now able to fill. I am currently self-employed as an Independent SETS Provider for the NYCDOE, as well as a private tutor. In the classroom, so much time is spent on mandatory paperwork and test prep, that sometimes the actual teaching suffers. In a one to one setting, this isn't the case. The ratio of one student to one teacher, leads to amazing results.
As a classroom teacher with the NYCDOE, I taught ELA including literature and grammar. I also taught Math, Science and Social Studies to my elementary and middle school students. Many were working 1-3 years below grade level. With my strategies, they began to love learning and their reading and subject levels increased 2-3 grades in one academic school year. During my time in the classroom, I was known to raise standardized test scores each year and was often asked to assist colleagues in mastering effective teaching strategies. I currently hold a Master's Degree in General and Special Education, and I still possess a current license as a New York City Department of Education teacher." less...
