"Hi, I'm Mia. As a current PhD candidate in Biology and Statistics, a former humanities and elementary teacher, and college academic assistant in math, biology, Greek, and essay writing, I am enthusiastic about tutoring a variety of subject areas! I have a cross-disciplinary background spanning both STEM and the humanities and am a certified K-12 teacher.
I focus on three primary target areas to achieve academic excellence:
1. Motivation and confidence through well-documented success in learning theory such as growth-mindset, multiple intelligence theory, scaffolding, and frequent positive feedback.
2. Attention to student zone of proximal development in order to tailor challenges where individually needed.
3. Develop project-based learning that maximizes interest and background knowledge.
My strengths include a focus on critically engaging individualized approaches to meeting your needs. I believe that even with perfect qualifications, a good fit is key to success. The first session will help us find out if we are a good match. If your needs are best met by a different tutoring style, I encourage you to find that person. The top priority is that you find the best learning environment for you or your student as this will produce the most positive outcomes!
I have writing experience across a range of subjects, and attended an intensive summer writing program at Columbia University. With over eight years of combined tutoring, teaching, and editing, I have a broad and extensive background in English and Writing. Additionally, as a teacher at a Title I charter school in New Mexico, I worked closely with ESL students and received GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) training to design curriculum for English as a Second Language Learners.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns and I will respond within hours! Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks! Mia" less...
