"Hi there! My name is Jessica. I have been a certified English (7-12) and Students with Disabilities (7-12) teacher for over four years in New York State, and I would love to help you reach your academic goals! I specialize in working with students with a range of exceptionalities, including learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and mental health challenges. While I especially love helping students with English, I have gained experience working with a variety of subject areas as a 9th grade Resource Room teacher. I am comfortable providing general homework help and general study strategies for a wide range of topics, including English, math (through Algebra 1), science, and social studies.
I am also a Wilson Reading System Instructor, which is an evidence-based program to help students who are two or more grade levels behind in reading. This program uses a range of hands-on learning activities to help students improve in many areas of literacy, including decoding, spelling, fluency, and comprehension. Ask me about this and I'd love to share if I think this could be a good fit for you or your student!
As a teacher, I love to individualize my instruction to the needs of each student that I serve, which is a mindset that I bring to tutoring as well. Whether a student needs fast-paced instruction to keep engaged, visual supports to increase their comprehension, or lots of examples and hands-on activities to help them learn to their fullest, I believe that it is my responsibility as the tutor to create a unique plan to meet their needs. There is no "one size fits all" approach to education, and I love getting to know my students to learn what works for them.
I'm currently accepting new students for online lessons! Please send me a message if you think I could be the right person to support you or your child this year. I'm excited to work with you!" less...
