I have been a classroom educator for over 15 years. I prepared for my teaching journey at University of Tennessee Knoxville by majoring in English and minoring in Child Development. I continued my studies at Christian Brothers University where I obtained a Master's degree in education and teaching license. After several years in the classroom, I felt it necessary to pursue a Reading Specialist degree from Harding University to better serve struggling readers. Although I love the work I do in the classroom, I find that working one-on-one with learners is my true calling. I enjoy tutoring learners individually because they are more apt to grasps concepts that they did not understand during whole group instruction. The learners I tutor show great progress after receiving more individualized instruction.

I am an outstanding English tutor because I focus on the phonics foundational skills that struggling readers are lacking. I teach phonics in order to teach learners how to read and build their fluency. I then transition into teaching learners how to read to learn by focusing on vocabulary and comprehension skills. Additionally, I am an outstanding English tutor because I teach writing through reading. This is not only helpful when students are asked to perform on standardized assessments, but it is also a way for them to showcase their understanding of common themes presented in literary texts. I am an outstanding math tutor because I focus on the number and operations foundational skills that learners need to solve complex problems. I also teach students different mathematical strategies that can be used to solve problems. Knowing and using different strategies is very helpful especially when students complete performance tasks on standardized assessments.
