"I have been teaching and tutoring both Math and English (to English language learners) all of my adult life. I am a lifelong learner, and I’ve honed my skills to be able to help others learn more efficiently. I use a methodical approach to teach and tutor - from understanding the conceptual, to simple application, to tackling more challenging problems. I have worked with struggling students, those with learning disabilities, ELL students, as well as with students trying to work ahead over the summer in preparation for more advanced courses. I have offered homework help, but I have also developed personalized study and development plans for students as needed. Communication with parent and a thorough needs analysis is key, and I never skimp on either of those.
When many of my students come to see me, they are behind in their courses and struggling to maintain a C or D average. Within 2 months (sometimes sooner - it depends on how far behind they have fallen), I generally help them to maintain at least a B average. Some of my students came to me as B students desperately wanting an A, and of course, that is a very easy turnaround. The best part for me is to watch my students’ confidence rise over time.
Over 15+ years of math education and 20+ years of teaching have given me the tools to help any serious learner to succeed. I enjoy the classroom environment, but one-on-one is my specialty. I teach high school math professionally, but I have two children of my own at home who are in elementary and middle school. Of course, I tutor them at home, too! Thus, I am familiar with all levels of Texas math curriculum up to Algebra 2.
With younger learners or those who struggle with ADHD, I use brain breaks and quick activities to break up the lessons as needed. Each student is different, and I adjust as soon as I sense “overload,” frustration, or a lack of focus. I absolutely love what I do, and I guarantee that your child will find my lessons helpful and engaging." less...
