"Hello! My name is Brooke, and I'm very excited to work with you! I have been providing tutoring or homework help since I was 14 years old. I have always loved working with students, watching them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
I attended University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut, for elementary and special education with a focus in behavioral studies. After a gap year to work and figure out what I wanted to major in, I continued on to get my MSEd in Literacy Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York, NY. Since then, I have worked in many different schools in many different capacities, finally settling as a SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) Provider, similar to a learning specialist, so I could work with students either one-on-one or in small groups, and see success happen in a different way. I am able to tailor my teaching style to the student's individual needs and learning styles, in order to ensure that student is reaching the greatest possible success.
I have experience in common core math, Singapore, Eureka, Every Day Math, as well as a variety of others, thanks to my expansive student teaching and classroom experience background.
I have always been a reader. I was that student who had that book peaking out of my desk, trying to read during a lesson. I think my passion and excitement for books transfers over, and I work on different aspects, such as decoding, comprehension (because what is reading without understanding?), sequencing, and more.
While I do not have an occupational therapy background, I have worked with many students who receive OT services, and I have learned tactics to help improve handwriting, whether it be pencil grip or focusing on fine and gross motor skills. I also have experience working with Handwriting Without Tears, a widely used handwriting program.
