"I'm a dedicated mentor with over 300 hours of formal tutoring experience. My primary focus is helping students prepare well-rounded and successful art portfolios (fine arts, illustration, general design, UI/UX, animation) for college admissions and competitions. I have a Bachelor's in Design from Carnegie Mellon University's design school. I was additionally accepted to RISD, CalArts, Parsons, ArtCenter, Pratt, MICA, SAIC, SVA, Ringling, and SCAD with $ of cumulative scholarship awards for undergrad study. I'm currently working at NASA in visual strategy.
As a recent graduate, I am very familiar with what stands out to art/design admissions, and understand how confusing it can be for students (and parents!) to navigate the application process. I coach students in creating standout work for art school admissions through tasteful curation, reflection, and creativity. Art schools seek out students that can demonstrate both technical skill and creative voice, thus I strive to guide students through discovering and expressing their style. Whether you are seeking feedback on your artwork, writing your artist statement, curating your portfolio, or want to learn more about the whole process, I am here for you!
Classically trained in fine arts for a decade, I assist students in improving their understanding and skill level of composition/layout, color, concept, and overall design sense. I help students with personal, non-profit design projects, even just to learn to draw. I also frequently perform demos of design software according to student needs.
I have received years of design critique from admission officers and professors at CMU, RISD, and ArtCenter and have made it a personal mission to pass on what I know to students and help where I can. This stuff can be even harder than test prep, and resources are hard to come by. I'm a practicing design professional outside of tutoring, currently at NASA JPL's design agency and previously working at Stanford University, Illumination Entertainment, and in freelance." less...
