"Hi, I’m Andrew! I am a Neuroscience PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). I graduated in 2023 with my BS in Neuroscience, Physics, and Mathematics. I started tutoring various math and science courses in high school. Realizing I had a passion to teach and help students overcome their academic challenges, I continued to tutor in college. I received my CRLA I certification and tutored at Drew University’s Center of Academic Excellence. I specialized in tutoring math, chemistry, neuroscience, and physics courses.
Among some of my academic achievements: I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in 2023, and accepted membership to Phi Beta Kappa (a prestigious honors society). I also completed paid summer research internships at NYU and the Flatiron Institute from 2021-2023. My research culminated in an undergraduate thesis and other science manuscripts. I have received numerous academic and research awards including: the Cynthia Baldwin Haselton Scholarship (awarded for outstanding academic record and character), the Tracey J. Shors Neuroscience Prize (awarded for collaborative and multidisciplinary research), and the Novartis Excellence in Neuroscience Award. I succeeded in my graduate application with acceptances to top research universities, including CMU and Georgia Tech.
In the past 6 years, I have tutored over 15 science and mathematics courses from high school level to advanced college material. With my experience I’ve learned numerous teaching methods and try to implement the best style to each student, recognizing not all students learn the same way! I also encourage various study habits depending on each student’s background and skill set. While I enjoy teaching and helping students see their full academic and professional potential, I enjoy learning from them too, appreciating their interests and goals. As a tutor I strive to build student’s confidence so they can continue doing their best work despite challenging material. I hope to serve as a supportive mentor for any and all students!" less...
