"Hi, I’m Vanessa! I am currently a microbiology graduate student, and I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. When I first started college, I felt out of my depth in my introductory biology courses because I didn’t have a strong background in the sciences. Luckily, I had access to upperclassman tutors who understood my experience and helped me engage with the material at my level. I appreciated how they could relate to my struggles and how they adapted to how I learned best, checking in at every step to ensure we were on the same page. It was under this type of instruction that I thrived, eventually becoming a tutor myself and being awarded molecular and cellular biology student of the year in 2021.
I try my best to implement the one-on-one support and personalized engagement in my tutoring that so helped me when I was a student. I have been able to exercise these practices in my variety of tutoring roles, from designing personalized problem sets for first-year college students, to guiding high school students through biology and chemistry homework, and even designing and teaching a pre-chemistry summer program for local high schoolers, complete with hands-on experiments. My experiences as a tutor have solidified my understanding that there are many fun and engaging ways to learn about science, and it is my passion to explore what works best for each individual student.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or want to schedule a session. I welcome any resources or suggestions you can provide. My schedule is flexible and I strive to respond quickly to any inquiries!" less...
