"My name is Christina and I am a credentialed math teacher with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a Masters in Education from UCLA. In addition, I have a Masters degree in Mathematics through Queen Mary University in London, which is a member of the acclaimed Russell Group. I have three years of full time high school teaching experience within the Los Angeles school district and three years of experience teaching community college.
Working on building students' critical thinking skills is one of my greatest passions and I believe critical thinking is most strengthened through logic and mathematical problem solving. My teaching methods involve multiple representations to help students better grasp the underlying relationship between numerical data, graphs, tables, and trends. While some instructors introduce mathematical formulas early on, I choose to focus on proofs and derivations for a deeper conceptual understanding of material. Mathematics often has a reputation of being mundane but rather than stifling creativity I like to foster imaginative methods and approaches to problems. Ultimately, I aim to enhance students' appreciation of mathematics and empower them to be creative problem solvers not only in math, but in all aspects of their lives.
In addition to my formal teaching experience, I also have experience tutoring students in math from an elementary level up to college. I am extremely patient and skilled in explaining concepts in more than one way to help students who are struggling with a particular topic or approach. Rather than telling students what to do, I facilitate their own personal investigation of the material, which strengthens their critical thinking abilities.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to learn more about my teaching methods or to schedule lessons. I look forward to working with you!" less...
