"Howdy! My name is Shutianyi, and I graduated from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, John C Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts in 2021. I am a current industry professional with applicable knowledge and insights on today’s animation and art industry. My work experience includes Ravensburger (Disney Lorcana), Black Black, Marvel Studios Animation, and BIEN.

With boots-on-the-ground professional experience and having been a student myself, I understand what skills and mindsets are necessary to thrive professionally as an artist. My teaching experience includes providing private portfolio reviews to animation students and tutoring K-5 students at Vermont Ave. Elementary School. Dedicated to providing my students with the most useful learning experience, I always personalize class plans to suit individual needs and goals. I believe it is the instructor’s responsibility to structure the classes in an engaging and digestible way.

I specialize in teaching animation-specific skills, such as animation foundational principles, illustration, character and prop design, and professionalism (fancy word for navigating the industry). When it is time to put together portfolios, whether it’s for college or job applications, I will be there to guide you through portfolio and resume preparations.

For my younger students and hobbyists who are just interested in the fun of art creation, I also offer drawing fundamentals classes! Paired with fun hands-on projects, I hope to present art to my students as a life-long interest and nurture each one’s unique artistic taste.
