"Hi, I'm Benjamin! I'm a Senior at Texas Tech University, and am enrolled in the College of Education. I'm a certified teacher in Texas for all core subjects (Math, ELAR, Science and Social Studies), and I've got a giant love of history - so much so that I'm throwing on more coursework to get my minor! I've always held some sort of teaching or tutoring role in school - in high school I tutored History, Social Studies and Science as well as taught the Health course, and I frequently worked with elementary students on the weekends. I had the great privilege of having wonderful, attentive teachers, and the experiences with them and the lessons they had stuck with me, inspiring my switch in sophomore year from Architecture to Elementary Education.

What I try to do in teaching and tutoring is to make the process of learning approachable. I've found that making sure that the learning is reasonable and relatable is half the battle - if a student if comfortable with confronting new ideas and topics, it's that much easier! Lessons that I do usually involve a short but thorough explanation, then hands on work to explore the topic, and then a good bit of discussion between myself and the student. In my experience, students can get caught up in the immediacy of accomplishing work - I like to make sure that the lesson is slowed down at one point, and that the student is processing everything. I've found that setting down the pencil and just having a discussion helps solidify the material and their understanding.

I want to help any students as much as possible, so I'm absolutely welcome to any additional resources or suggestions that students or parents can provide. Any and all insight on the subject that needs help, and the student that is being taught is helpful! I'm easy to reach and will always answer quickly to messages.
