"I've been a writing tutor at The Writing Center of a community college in Queens, NY for a year and half where I guide students one-on-one through organization, structure, thesis development, research, and citations in academic, scholarship, and transfer essays. In this position, I was intensely trained in different methods and approaches.
I'm also a freelance journalist mainly writing for publications like ARTnews about, Nonprofit Quarterly about social justice issues, and The Latinx Project at NYU about culture, as well as others.
My approach as a tutor is making sure the student has the fundamental knowledge of how to construct an essay. I will ask questions to understand the student's writing level and then engage in a collaborative process with the student to construct an essay paragraph by paragraph that is true to their voice. Depending on the level of the student, I can use a variety of tutoring methods such as essay maps, retroactive outline, sensory detail exercises, and others.
A little more about me:
I've been writing since I was 10-years-old when I started writing poetry. My love for writing evolved into an interest in studying Media in undergrad college where I studied journalism and wrote for the school newspaper. My first paid opportunity as a writer was in 2015 for Hip Latina where I wrote about travel and culture for two years." less...
