"Hello! I’m Joey C. I graduated from Columbia University in 2021 with a B.A. cum laude in philosophy. Throughout my high school years, I privately tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in a variety of subjects, and I was a peer mentor at my school’s writing center. In my last two summers as a student at Columbia, I was an assistant instructor at Great Books Summer Program where I guided students through classic works of literature and philosophy. I am a passionate and committed teacher with a wealth of experience. I work with my students to develop a deep understanding of fundamental concepts in mathematics and the sciences by paying close attention to the unique ways in which they grasp ideas. This approach of deep understanding rather than rote memorization ensures that students will not merely regurgitate information on tests or assignments that they will then quickly forget. Rather than simply explaining concepts or offering my own interpretations of texts to students, I seek to guide my students to their own answers and interpretations through extensive question-asking. As a tutor, nothing makes me happier than fostering intellectual confidence and enthusiasm in my students.

I have also studied the piano since the age of seven and took music theory courses in high school and college. I am particularly knowledgeable about jazz theory.
