"I'm Stephen! I graduated from Columbia University as a History Major. At Columbia, world class professors taught me to deeply analyze subjects in sophisticated research essays and classroom debate. As a middle and high school teacher for the last ten years, I've transmitted my professors' lessons to my students, while making sure that class remains a genuinely fun experience. I teach with the same lively mix of visual learning, multimedia, and engaging discussion that I learned in the Ivy League.
I’ve taught SAT Writing, SAT Math, English, and History for over ten years now, in both one-to-one and classroom settings. My strategies have helped students improve their standardized test scores by hundreds of points. In English, I have a time-tested plan to teach kids how to write essays, and a great course to improve their grammar. I've had many students come back to me and tell me they aced all of their essays based on the tools I gave them.
I also specialize in working with kids with neurodivergence and learning differences, having worked with hundreds over the years; working with these populations starts with kindness. Above all, I have a patient and fun attitude that makes my students love learning. I practice meditation for an hour a day, and I can get even the most reluctant student to throw themselves into academics. Teaching is a genuine joy for me, and my students end up feeling the same way.
I always personalize my lessons to the needs of each individual, and I'm very adaptive to student and parent feedback. Please reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
