"I’m Anya, a published author with an MFA in writing from Columbia University. My work has appeared in The New York Times, O! The Oprah Magazine, and Esquire, among other places, and my 2018 memoir was named one of Newsweek’s best books of the year. I love helping students with academic writing and essays, college application essays, and their creative writing projects.
I have extensive teaching and tutoring experience. I’ve taught academic writing at Columbia University and Parsons, fiction at Western New England University’s Graduate Writing Program, and I spent seven summers teaching advanced creative writing through Columbia University’s Summer High School Writing Program. As a tutor, I’ve improved students’ essay-writing abilities while teaching transferable skills they can apply to future writing assignments and successfully expanded their critical reading and comprehension proficiency as well.
I've helped many high school seniors craft outstanding essays for their college applications, and my students are regularly admitted to Ivy League institutions (Princeton, Yale, and Harvard) and their "reach" schools. I support students at every step of the writing process, from brainstorming topics that highlight who they are and how they think to outlining, drafting, and revision, all while honing and refining their voice so their personality shines through.
I also work with high school creative writers, supporting their unique interests and independent fiction, nonfiction, and poetry projects. In addition to evolving their craft-bassed skills, I guide and support their pursuit of prestigious writing awards and publication, both of which look great on college applications. My students consistently receive recognition in the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, school-based awards and recognition, and have published work in The New York Times and literary magazines." less...
