"Hola, chicos! My name is Brenda and I graduated with a masters degree (biomedical engineering) in May 2021 and completed a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in May 2020. When I was still in high school, one of the teachers there invited me to participate in an after school tutoring program for middle schoolers. I helped the middle school students with their homework, and aided them in studying for any upcoming tests. Helping them allowed me to learn different teaching techniques, as each student learns differently. For instance, students who lean more towards the visual side, I presented them with power points as well as demonstrations to keep them focused and engaged on the lesson plan that I prepared. For the students who are tactile learners I encouraged them to draw pictures and showed them demonstrations. Thus, the lesson plans I create varies and depends on how best my students learn as I believe that not just one style fits all.
After my experience in the tutoring program, I envisioned myself teaching a small class of my own, and became a big reason of why I decided to become a teaching assistant for my biology professor. Every Thursday, during my junior year of college for 12-weeks I held a cellular neurology discussion. During the one-hour discussions, I went over assignments and answered any questions the students posed. Being a teacher assistant gave me the opportunity to further develop innovate ways of keeping my students engaged and motivated. For the students who still had a difficulty learning the lesson I offered additional help by either staying after class or answering any questions sent by email at any given time of the day.
I predominately tutor any level of mathematics up to calculus, biology, any level of chemistry including organic chemistry, and Spanish. My ultimate goal is to help students improve their understanding of the subject with a lesson plan that best fits their learning style. I am readily accessible, you can reach me by email or through the platform. Please feel free to" less...
