"Hi there! I'm Aubrey. I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas State University, majoring in theatre with a minor in mathematics. I always joke that I'm the perfect combination of left- and right-brained skills, so I can teach math to theatre kids and creative thinking to the numbers people. This holistic approach to learning is a strength I bring to my work as a tutor, as I strive to encourage my students not only as mathematicians but as learners and as people.
I have noticed that lots of people run into a mental block with math because it has a reputation as a difficult subject, but I think that anyone can be a "math person"! It is always rewarding for me when students I work with say things like, "Wow, that wasn't so hard after all." What I love most about tutoring is the ability to empower my students by helping them discover their own capabilities.
I was a Supplemental Instructor (which is like a tutor in a group setting) at my university for four semesters, specializing in Differential Equations. This job involved attending the class lectures, writing accompanying lesson plans to deepen and cement students' understanding, and holding tutoring sessions where I could challenge the students with engaging activities. I also held office hours to help individual students, which also made me a better tutor: I learned how to explain one concept in lots of different ways, and how to identify struggle points for a particular student. I am now going on three years of experience as a private tutor for students at all levels of math.
My aim as a tutor is to be empathetic, engaging, and professional at all times. I am flexible with my methodologies and always open to feedback or suggestions from students and parents, in order to provide the best possible experience for my learners. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
