"Hello! My name is Tim and I have been tutoring since I was a high school student. I initially tutored introductory level math classes, but have since moved on into my field of specialty which is now Computer Science, Programming, and Biology. I graduated from the University of Maryland: College Park with a degree in Computer Science (UMD is a top 15 ranked CS school) and received high honors (very rarely given) by the honors program within the department.
During my undergraduate years, I was a TA for a fairly difficult course - Programming Language Paradigms. I fully self led, prepared, graded, and taught an entire section of the class.
I currently work at The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard in a research lab that utilizes computational methods to fight cancer. I program every day, implement complex algorithms, and employ machine learning, statistics, and math on a daily basis as well. Each summer at the Broad, I mentor a high school student for roughly three months. In this time, we enable the young adults to think like a scientist, progress in their knowledge across a wide breadth of skills, and prepare them for college.
Mentoring and tutoring, to me, is so satisfying because at one point I struggled with school! I failed out of undergrad TWICE! But now, I work right on the MIT campus. Teaching is not only about knowing the material, it's about making the students believe in themselves. I know how it feels to be struggling, so I am extremely empathetic and patient with individuals that are in the same boat.
I have extensive algorithms training and prep, and graduated top of my honors program in Computer Science. I received offers from multiple top tier institutes and companies including Amazon, the NIH, Johns Hopkins, Amazon, the NSA, and other tech positions.
I have mentored numerous individuals throughout the years, as well as TA'd for a class (more than one semester) during my undergrad at UMD." less...
