"My name is Hisham S. I am a second year Computer Science major at Michigan State University. I have a passion to grow and expand my knowledge as much as I can, and part of that is the satisfaction I receive from helping people. I have helped my brothers with math for several years, and in these recent months have tutored three students K-8. My students have achieved exceptional results and have felt more confident about their skills after I give them a thorough yet engaging walk through of the material.

After many years of taking math and competing with myself I have noticed that the most crucial thing to having a smooth experience in mathematics is to gain a solid understanding of the basic foundations that come with the material. Multiplication, division, addition and subtraction are all core techniques that will pertain to all math going into the future. K-8 math is heavily based on these listed techniques, and luckily this is where I come in to sharpen my students skills and allow them to be able to feel confident about using them in the real world. We need math for as long as we operate within society and the workforce, and gaining a solid comprehension of these techniques will take you far within your education and career. I struggled with math when I was younger, having difficulty grasping basic concepts. However I made it a priority of mine to find methods and techniques to help me navigate through higher level math courses. When I have time with my students I am proud to say that I am able to provide methods and enough repetition to allow them to feel like they are able to look at a problem and say "I can do it."
