"Hi I'm Erin! I am currently a Masters student studying Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell Tech (Cornell University) in New York City. Previously, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Florida State University (FSU) where I also played NCAA D1 beach volleyball. Prior to FSU, I was the salutatorian of my high school, and was selected as a National Merit Scholar and one of thirty Presidential Scholars, the highest academic honor for incoming students at FSU.
I began tutoring seven years ago, when a group of my friends and I started to meet after school and help each other study chemistry. We soon realized how mutually beneficial it was and started a tutoring program through our high school and the chemistry club at a local college. I have since tutored nearly four hundred hours, primarily focusing on PSAT, SAT, and ACT English and Math for middle and high school students. My experiences tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds have helped me realize that the most effective tutors understand how a subject’s topics connect, so they can identify knowledge gaps and approach them from different angles for each student. Most students also engage more when they see the bigger picture of why a class is important. I try to bring this knowledge to my tutoring approach by enhancing subjects with my enthusiasm and experiences.
In a typical tutoring session, I will review a student’s notes and assignments to develop a lesson plan prior to the session. This way we can focus the lesson on working through specific examples and applications with time allotted at the end to ensure students can work through problems on their own. This format is consistent and easily adaptable to each student’s needs, and I am always open to additional resources or suggestions. I am also happy to develop practice plans and provide take-home assignments for any of my students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson!" less...
