"Hello! My name is Carmela. I completed a medical billing and coding program at Renton Technical College in 2014, then I received my CPC certification through AAPC in 2015. I have been working in the medical field since 2014. The first two years of my career in this field was in billing, the rest has been in Pro Fee coding.

As part of my duties, I analyze medical records and abstract clinical data by assigning codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) from patient records in accordance to coding classification systems. I also use my skills and experience in the coding field to provide feedback to providers regarding coding related subjects. In addition to coding, I assist the billing team in resolving coding related claim denials.

To stay current with my coding skills, I attend webinars and participate in continuing education through AAPC and use other online resources such as AHIMA forums, AMA and CMS articles. I love helping medical coding students gain more confidence and knowledge in the field of medical coding by providing them personalized instruction in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Whether students need help with specific areas of difficulty or need some help preparing for certification exams, my objective is to help them succeed in their studies and goals.
