"After graduating with a degree in accounting, I had a change of plans and became an English teacher in Japan. While there, I taught English conversation to all ages (from toddlers to adults) and all levels (from beginners to advanced speakers). I taught at language schools and international companies. In particular, for two years I worked at Toyota Motors teaching 1 month residential intensive classes for employees prior to their overseas assignments. While at Toyota, I developed a knack for adding activities and games that could hold the students interest and attention while studying from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday until Friday. After returning from Japan, I completed a master's degree in applied linguistics with a TESOL specialty.
For about 10 years, I worked at a language center in San Diego teaching all aspects of English to foreign students who would then enroll at American universities. The students were from around the world and had diverse native languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. I perfected techniques in teaching academic reading/writing, public speaking, grammar, and vocabulary that would lead to improvement for the students while also resulting in excellent survey results from the students. This is evidenced by awards for teaching excellence in 2013 and 2016 from my employer.
On the side, I have tutored financial accounting since undergraduate school. I have worked with students privately and at community colleges and universities to help them master the challenging materials in their often first university course in business administration.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what your exact goals are. After that, I can use my creativity and well of pedagogical ideas to help you succeed in mastering the curriculum and getting the grade you desire." less...
