"Hello! My name is Elana, and I'm an MFA candidate in fiction at The Ohio State University, where I teach First Year English. Before this, I taught English at a middle school in Budapest, Hungary. I received my B.A. in Creative Writing and Playwriting/Screenwriting from SUNY Purchase in 2020. In addition to writing an extensive portfolio of creative work, the bulk of my education has consisted of editing and critiquing the work of fellow writers in workshops for fiction, plays, and screenplays. My background working for literary publications has given me proficient editing skills. If you are looking for help writing an essay (including college application essays), writing a short story or a play/screenplay, or just need help with your English class, I have the skills and the passion to guide you through it!

I am also qualified to tutor ESL students. I received my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate in January 2022, and taught English at a middle school in Budapest, Hungary for 3 years. This experience broadened my teaching skills to include conversational English, reading, writing, and grammar. If you're enrolled in an ESL class, I would be happy to help with your coursework. I graduated cum laude from SUNY Purchase College with a B.A. in Creative Writing & Playwriting/Screenwriting. I received the Ginny Wray Senior Prize in Fiction (2020) and the Ginny Wray Prize in Fiction (2018), both awarded by the SUNY Purchase Creative Writing Program. My fiction and poetry have been published in several literary journals, and I also have an extensive background working as an editor, including an editorial internship at The Hudson Review.
