"My name is Hillary and I am a professional, compassionate and highly experienced academic tutor.
I hold a current Oregon Teaching License for Kindergarten through 12th grade with teaching endorsements in Reading Intervention, Language Arts, Multiple Subjects and ESL. I have more than eight years of classroom teaching experience and more than 15 years as an academic tutor. My teaching experiences include teaching high school students with severe language-based learning disabilities, teaching reading, language arts and ESL in fourth through 12th grade, and supporting other teachers in curriculum development and assessment alignment as an instructional coach. I have run my own academic tutoring business for more than 15 years, supporting students in middle school through college in a range of content areas and skills, and accruing more than 8,000 hours of tutoring experience.
I have a Master’s of Education from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from Amherst College in Massachusetts.
As a tutor, I work to ensure students’ academic needs are being supported in ways that will help them master necessary skills and content while finding success in the classroom. I am an impassioned learner and I greatly enjoy working one-on-one with students to strengthen their knowledge and skills, academic performance and confidence as learners.
As an experienced teacher I know the "one-size-fits-all" approach does not work for many students, which is why I personalize tutoring sessions to meet the specific and individual needs of each student. After comprehensively assessing students to identify their strengths and areas of needed improvement, I draw upon a wide range of strategies, methods and resources to make sure each tutoring session is personally relevant and the student gains lasting skills.
I love empowering students to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to attain their goals and realize the contributions they want to make in the world." less...
