"I taught for ten years at the Corona-Norco Unified School District. I've taught Kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grades. My recent students have needed help with phonics, spelling, and memorizing math facts. With my undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from California State University in Fullerton and a Teaching Credential (K-8) from Chapman University I have a creative background to address student needs creatively. I am well versed in teaching elementary education - all subjects - from the foundations of reading and writing and mathematics. I enjoy finding the right modality to meet each students way of learning.
On a personal level. I am married. I am a mom. My son just graduated from college and I am available to tutor. I have two cats.
What makes an excellent teacher is the ability to focus on the needs of the student, the goals of the curriculum and good communication skills. A teacher also needs to be able to adapt learning styles to meet learning outcomes.
The ability to breakdown the complexities of language into bite size morsels (i.e. utilizing phonics, vocabulary, sight words, and grammar to continually build more language skills) is essential. Making memorizing interesting and engaging is a key to maintaining student engagement.
