"Hi! My name is Grace Goldstein, and I'm a senior English major at Kenyon College.
I can teach ELA state test prep to elementary, middle school, and high school students, along with general English and essay-writing skills. As a Stuyvesant High School graduate, I'm happy to help current middle schoolers prepare for the ELA sections of the SHSAT.
I'm passionate about literary analysis, all kinds of essay writing, and believe it or not, grammar and syntax. I was a tutor at Stuyvesant High School's "Writing Center" for three years (the tutoring program was originally limited to juniors and seniors, but I talked my way into the job as a sophomore).
I've always been the go-to person for help editing essays: checking for flow, grammar, spelling, capitalization, and everything else that matters, among my friends and classmates. Also, occasionally, for teachers who need an extra pair of eyes while grading student work.
I've won a number of Scholastic Art and Writing Awards over the years for my literary analysis, fiction, and nonfiction writing. In my junior year of high school, I won a silver medal for a personal essay (which also happened to be my Common App essay). The same piece won Amtrak's national essay writing contest.
I was a summer intern at Writopia Lab's day camp, helping kids write fiction stories. Writopia is a friendly and supportive environment. It also values making sure students/campers come out of the program with a complete piece that they can feel proud of later, along with improved writing skills.
At this time, I'm only tutoring remotely, so message me to set up a Zoom tutoring session! In my experience, working together on essays and ELA-related lessons translates to the video call format particularly well." less...
