"Hi, I'm Raghav! I am a computer science and neurobiology student on the pre-health track at the University of California, Irvine. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've immersed myself in the world of tutoring and teaching, transforming what began as a hobby into a lifelong passion. And it all started after I witnessed my first "Aha!" moment.
"Oh wait, I get it now!" As a student, I heard these “Aha!” moments could make any teacher’s day, but it wasn’t until two summers ago that I truly understood the power of the “Aha!” moment. In co-teaching a meteorology class for ScioVirtual, a company that helps middle school students prepare for Science Olympiad events, I worked hard to instill my passion for learning into the hearts and minds of my students. Here, I met Ansh, an 8th grader from the heart of LA who loved learning meteorology but struggled to connect with the class's content online.
His "Aha!" moment happened while I was trying to explain cloud formation. Initially, he couldn't understand it; he struggled to grasp the behavior along cold and warm fronts. His confusion was palpable. I needed to pivot. So, I decided to switch things up. I stopped sharing my slideshow on Zoom, repositioned my camera, and started drawing on a piece of paper. I'm no Picasso, but in a few minutes, I drew out the process of weather-front-induced cloud formation that I had tried to explain with words before. Immediately Ansh exclaimed, "Oh wait, I get it now!"
My passion for tutoring and mentorship stems from these small but meaningful interactions that help my students learn and grow. Whether it's facilitating a minor "Aha!" moment or a major discovery, the opportunity to inspire and nurture young minds provides me with a great sense of satisfaction and fuels my desire to tutor.
I welcome collaboration with students and parents, valuing their input to tailor each session effectively. For any inquiries or to schedule a lesson, feel free to reach out. Let's embark on a journey of discovery and academic success together!" less...
