"I’m Rachel! I graduated from Ithaca College with a BA in English and a minor in education. Through my major and minor I had the opportunity to complete over 100 hours of field experience working with students in an elementary and high school classroom.

Originally hailing from Boston, MA, I moved to New York to be an Americorp Member with City Year, a program that places Corp members in different schools in need throughout the five boroughs. With City Year, I had a chance to work as an English TA and tutor at a school in the South Bronx where I worked closely with a select group of students to help them improve their English grade and had a lot of success.

After finishing City Year, I was hired by a charter school in Harlem where I currently work as a 7th grade English Language Arts teacher. I pull a small group of students a few times a week to provide specialized materials tailored for their individual needs. By doing so I am able to increase their in class grades and insure their success on the New York State ELA exam.

I’m able to quickly identify a child’s needs, what teaching style will be best for them, and tailor materials based on that information that will lead to their success. I also have a wealth of resources to draw from based on my teaching experience.
