"Hi, I'm Katie! I am recent graduate of Dartmouth College where I studied pure/theoretical mathematics. I have been a math tutor since I was a freshman in high school, and hope to teach at the college level some day! Although I am happy to work with a variety of students, my specialty is helping anxious math learners. With an upbeat and supportive attitude, I aim to help students learn key concepts so they feel confident in their skills. Deep understanding, deliberate practice, and self-efficacy are the keys to success in math.
While getting my bachelor's degree I was well-versed in areas such as real and complex analysis, abstract algebra, and topology. Topology is where I found my groove and went on to take graduate courses in Algebraic Topology and Knot Theory. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.7.
My high school background includes graduating from Princeton High School with a 4.5 GPA and 5'S on both the Calculus AB and BC exams. I have also completed 3 math courses at Dartmouth, including Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Complex Analysis. My expertise lies in most high school level math courses. I have tutored students in Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AND AP Calculus BC. I have also tutored students at the middle school level in pre-algebra and core mathematics.
My methods for tutoring range from addressing broad conceptual issues, providing practice problems, filling in conceptual gaps, to simply helping with homework. First, I draw out students to understand their learning style and assess their proficiencies. Afterwards, I create a unique lesson plan customized for each individual.
My goal is not only to teach math, but build confidence in my students. Math can sometimes feel like a burdensome undertaking, and I would like to help! Please feel free to contact me!" less...
