"Hi, I'm John! And thanks for considering me as your next MCAT or USMLE tutor. I graduated cum laude from Villanova University in 2005 with a major in accounting and a minor in finance, then decided to change careers after a half-decade run in the business world. Excited by the new challenges and engaging science content, I soon realized what was waiting just around the corner: standardized test preparation. It isn't easy, but with the right instruction it can turn into a wonderful opportunity for growth. Scoring in the 98th percentile of the MCAT (520) and the 85th percentile of both USMLE 1 and 2, I learned firsthand and from my mentors that there's no "method" or one-sized fits all approach to achieving the score you are capable of. That's why I love to teach: I'll meet you wherever you are on your journey and coach you towards your own holistic understanding of both the material and strategy for answering more questions correctly. We'll go over your prep questions, mining them for as much information as possible and undoing "thinking errors", relearn and solidify content, and team up to put it all together into an improvement plan that has you at your peak for test day. I've tutored many students over the last 6 years, including developing my own supplementary medical sciences course while at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, so I live for seeing that "lightbulb" moment that happens only when you know you are truly hearing something in a way that brings it from yet another piece of information to a meaningful concept that's transferable to all the other facts you already know. This is one of the ways we can combat the dilemma of not knowing exactly what content areas might be more heavily weighted on your test. We'll also keep it fun and relevant; after almost 3 years of residency experience in Pediatrics at NYU, it became increasingly clear that the basic sciences - and then the medical sciences - lie at the core of almost all of the pathophysiology you'll encounter.
I look forward to working with you!" less...
