"I am a graduate of the University of California San Diego in Sociology. I began taking graduate coursework for my Master's in Applied Behavior Analysis. I am a lifelong learner and have passions in reading, writing, and web development. My favorite books are "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and "The 8th Habit". I use those habits to shape the mindset for my students to become better communicators.
I worked as a behavioral therapist for a number of years, implementing behavior change techniques. In the past, I have turned a kid into a rapper in order to learn how to write (created a cd to sell to his family). I find unique ways to motivate a child to complete tasks. I focus on how the child will use the skills to be successful in life.
I have tutored over 10 students over the course of 6 years. One child was unable to go to a public school because of his anxiety, and I helped him learn to stay focused on his work. He went from not being able to sit in a chair for one class to thriving in a classroom for the whole day. I meet a child where they are, especially with the special needs children I have taught. I use different strategies like breaking down a task into smaller parts, teaching in a memorable way, and finding the right motivator for the child.
In the past, I've dealt with many maladaptive behaviors like hitting, scratching, and sensory issues, applying techniques to decrease these behaviors to allow the person to thrive. My past supervisor would put me on her most difficult cases because of my patience and passion to teach. I'm constantly coming up with new ways to teach skills to gauge interest.
I welcome an opportunity to work with parents and students to achieve success. Feel free to contact me or schedule a session!" less...
