"Hi I'm Emmacate! I am a recent graduate of Oberlin College with degrees in Creative Writing and Dance. As a creative writing major I spent a good chunk of my undergraduate degree in writing workshops, giving and receiving feedback on my work from professors and peers alike. I know first hand how difficult and how impactful it can be to develop a positive relationship with the incorporation of critique. I've always responded best to feedback that uplifts the most interesting parts of a piece and centers them as a way of strengthening the work. I hope to carry this philosophy into tutoring and inspire my students to build a fire of confidence within themselves.
In addition to creative writing (including both poetry and prose), I am knowledgeable in academic writing as well, having studied literature and dance theory throughout college. My teaching/tutoring experience is limited to aftercare work with grades 2-8 and proofreading for friends and peers. I am excited, however, to dive into this new field and learn more about myself and my students. I am ideally looking to work with students in Middle to High School with Creative Writing and English whether that means looking at longer-term projects or proofreading essays together.
