Teaching has changed in many ways and it's critical to find a tutor that stays abreast of trends in education research and, of equal importance, studies the most suitable methodolgies for this generation and, specifically, for your child and their unique skill sets.
I believe a good teacher must be a good student. Perennially a student, and as a parent, I read about education every day! I have the passion and dedication to meet students where they are, exceed goals and foster a love of learning. What grades do I teach? All of them! I've tutored beginning reading and writing all the way through high school English. My goal is to arm students, not only with subject matter, but with the skills necessary to learn with confidence.
I've taught for over 20 years in both the public and private sectors. Most recently, I was a Reading Interventionist in Henrico County and, before that, I taught high school English at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Additionally, I externed at Short Pump Elementary and was the Center Director for Huntington Learning Center in Silver Spring, MD, where I was directly responsible for the education programming of over 100 students. I possess a Highly Qualified Reading Instruction certificate from VCU and I am an Oxford scholar!
