"Hello! My name is Dr. Melody Wan. I have recently moved back home to California. Prior to that, I held the teaching position of Visiting Assistant Professor at University of Louisiana, Lafayette and Flute Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University for the past three years. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Louisiana State University and a Performance Diploma from Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris from France. Originally from Taiwan, I have won first place in the Taiwan Music Competition, the Louisiana Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and the Flute Competition at the CSU Summer Arts Festival. I also received top prizes at the California State University Long Beach Flute Competition. I am also an active performer and a chamber musician in the grant-winning duo Vermillion Duet. I have earned a Master of Music degree from the CSU Long Beach, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the UC Santa Barbara.

I have more than 10 years of teaching experience. I teach flute students of all levels and ages. My students play in various excellent youth orchestra programs and have won numerous competitions and auditions. I also teach theory or musicianship classes, whether it's for young students to pass an exam or for college students that need extra help. I am a strong advocate for involving students in their own learning processes. I believe each student is unique, with their own way of learning and expressing music. I tailor my lessons to the individual needs of each student by making a plan with them at the beginning, setting personalized goals, and tracking their accomplishments as we go.
