"Hi! My name is Vivian and I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy currently working as a performing arts PT on Broadway. I graduated from UC Davis in 2015 w/ a degree in Biological Science with an emphasis in Neurology, Physiology, and Behavior. I then completed my certification in a Pre-Health post-baccalaureate program at CSU East Bay before starting my graduate program at Mercy University where I graduated in December with admission into 2 honor societies.
I started tutoring in high school at a local tutoring center, focusing mainly on elementary and middle school math, reading, and writing. I always connected well with kids and enjoyed breaking down the fundamentals so they will be ready for higher level learning. I then proceeded to tutor high school students through a local college counseling center in SAT math and reading. In total I spent approximately 3 years tutoring elementary to high school level students.
I continued with my passion for teaching during my post-bacc where I tutored in courses from Abnormal Psychology to Biochemistry. In my physical therapy program I tutored pre-OT, OT, and PT students in anatomy, neurology, physiology, and kinesiology. I am comfortable working with both undergraduate and graduate students in all these courses but I particularly enjoy teaching anatomy and kinesiology and will be starting as a Teaching Assistant in Kinesiology at Mercy College pending my clinical completion and boards certification. I also taught in the cadaver lab and provided office hours for students who are struggling with the material. I generally tutor one-on-one or in small groups because I believe students can have radically different learning styles and I want to tailor my methods to their needs.
I am mainly focused in tutoring students in healthcare programs but am open to tutoring elementary and middle school students as well. I used to compete in math and writing competition so I find it to be an enjoyable area to work in. Hope to hear from you soon if it sounds like I can be of help!" less...
