"I am excited to share my academic journey and tutoring experience. Having graduated as the top-ranked student in a class of 400, I will pursue a Physics degree at Duke University this fall. My academic background includes courses up to Differential Equations in mathematics and calculus-based physics. My dedication is reflected in my test scores: a 1580 on the SAT (800 in Reading and Writing, 780 in Math) and a 34 on the ACT (35 in Reading, 31 in Writing, 35 in Math, and 36 in Science). I've taken 11 AP courses, earning 5s in Calculus AB/BC, Physics 1, Chemistry, Statistics, Psychology, World History, and English Language and Composition, and 4s in US History, Computer Science A, and Computer Science Principles.
My tutoring experience is both diverse and extensive. I started tutoring individually and then transitioned to a role at Kumon, working primarily with elementary students for nearly a year. At Kumon, I noticed that while homework was useful, too much emphasis was placed on repetition rather than understanding. I adjusted my teaching to focus more on comprehension. Throughout high school, I also tutored my peers in subjects like calculus, physics, history, and more, creating a better learning structure by explaining concepts thoroughly and using homework as additional practice.
My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a deep understanding of subjects from the ground up. I encourage students to build knowledge step-by-step, promoting a comprehensive and lasting grasp of the material rather than merely providing answers. I am deeply invested in the psychological aspects of learning, utilizing techniques such as spaced repetition, active recall, and practice testing. I have thoroughly studied and applied these methods to ensure they are effective and beneficial for my students.
My goal as a tutor is to help students achieve their full potential through a supportive, engaging, and methodical approach to learning." less...
