"I am currently certified as an elementary teacher through the ninth grade in Oregon. I teach dyslexia in elementary and middle school. I teach dyslexia using the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Dyslexia is the main reason a bright child has a difficult time learning to read, spell, and write. I developed an interest to teach dyslexic students since after spending many years teaching remedial reading, I found that about one in five children that I work with have some degree of a learning problem, usually dyslexia. The sooner these students start with a dyslexia tutor, the sooner they will become successful readers. The dyslexic students I tutor have gone up many grade levels and have become successful readers, spellers, and writers.

I received my first degree at Oregon State in Speech Pathology. I went back to school later to earn my teaching degree at the University of Oregon. I have kept up with the educational standards by taking university classes, seminars, and workshops.

I love working with children. I teach reading with a phonic-based approach, and every lesson includes reading nonfiction or fiction stories, sight words, phonics and/or a phonemic awareness lesson, a comprehension skill lesson, and vocabulary development.

When I teach math I focus on computation, concept, and problem-solving skills.

I have been a speech therapist and worked with children with speech articulation difficulties, fluency disruptions, voice straining and deviations, and language development.
