"I specialize in helping students understand how to engage their brain and love learning! As a former teacher and principal, I have many years of experience designing curriculum and helping students overcome learning challenging in reading, writing, and mathematics. I am also trained as an Educational Psychologist and I am a Level II Certified Wilson Instructor; this means that I have a great deal of experience identifying why students are struggling and creating solutions that address the underlying causes of a student's difficulties. Additionally, I have spent many years working one on one with students who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. I love to make learning fun while helping the student become truly excited about his or her authentic potential. I have a bachelor's degree in literature and secondary education (language arts), a master's degree in educational leadership, a specialist degree in educational psychology, and I am currently working on my dissertation for my PhD in Educational Psychology. Additionally, I am a Certified Wilson Trainer, meaning I have a high level of expertise in delivering structured literacy for students of all ages (and I train educators for districts all over the state of Iowa how to teach reading).
I believe 100% in EduNurture! My goal is for every student I work with to feel cared for and excited about how beautiful and wonderful they are! Confidence grows as competency grows. I weave encouragement and enthusiasm throughout strategically implemented activities to change the student's brain, skill set, and ultimately, outlook on his or her personal potential for learning. I find creative ways to engage the student's brain to overcome learning challenges. Truly, I enjoy the challenge of getting to know and understand each student, and then finding fun, cognitively stimulating ways to help him or her soar!
