"To my teaching role, I bring my doctoral degree in The Study of Literature through Performance in Cultural and Historical contexts and my master of arts degree studying how gifted, creative learners learn. A creative writer, I have published four books with highly recognized publishers. I am also a published author of researched critical analysis essays remarked by literary, psychology, and medical journals.
An experienced overseas learner-centered educator, I offer research-based, shared-inquiry, innovative formative language arts practices that inspire students to revise and offer their best exam performances. I offer IB English Literature A and B, Theory of Knowledge, and Theater Arts; I supervise Extended Essays; I was a former IB Examiner of the EE and Paper 1 Commentary.
Essentially, my students enjoy learning and benefit from our classes. I invite them into the world of discovery learning that develops their centers of control for learning and their character-learner traits: curiosity, reflectivity, understanding, integrity, communication skills, compassion, principled risk-taking courage, and balance. They become close readers of themselves, literature, and our evolving world. They travel with authors, exploring both inner and outer landscapes, and a great variety of cultural and historical contexts . Realizing, as did Einstein, that imagination is greater than knowledge, they become problem solvers in real-life circumstances. They learn to understand creative works in context relative to an author's purpose. They learn to appreciate authors' creative choices and why. Many of my IB students have received full marks of 7/7 or 6/7, giving them possible university scholarships or tertiary English wavers. A number of my students also publish.
