"I am a college student seeking to major in neuroscience through general transfer from an associate’s degree. I have extensive experience teaching in multicultural settings, having taught in China and the United States. Through teaching all ages, from pre-K through 12th, I have found that, like me, many students struggle with traditional approaches to learning. In China, long term memorization (recitation) is highly emphasized, and, in the United States, short term memorization (test preparation) is highly emphasized. I greatly prefer a blended approach that does not solely focus on reciting or testing. I encourage students to formulate theories and defend their opinions on what they are learning while incorporating their own experiences into examples. This allows them to take away concepts that can be applied in a wide variety of settings, rather than subject-specific knowledge.
I specialize in English, especially with regards to test preparation for context synthesis. I tutor ACT Reading and Writing and all parts of the non-essay portions of the SAT. My scores on the ACT Reading and Writing are 32 and 35, respectively. My scores on the SAT English and Math portions are 780 and 740, respectively, with a cumulative score of 1520. In addition, I tutor AP Human Geography, AP U.S. History, and AP English Language and Composition; I hold a score of 5 in all three tests.
I’ve worked the most with young children and teens. In China, I taught grammar and phonics to pre-K through first grade in classroom settings. At the time, I also privately offered one-on-one English lessons to primary schoolers aged 10-12. In the United States, I’ve taught high schoolers one-on-one for AP and SAT test preparation.
Above all, I believe that every student requires a unique explanation of material to grasp it thoroughly, so if you have any specific questions or issues, please tell me. I respond quickly, so don’t be afraid to message me at any time. Contact me today for a free first lesson or to ask questions!" less...
