"My daily job is a Senior Direct Care (Habilitation) Provider for children and young adults with developmental disabilities. Outside of my job, I tutor children from preschool to young adults in college; 3-10 hours per week and have been doing so for over 24 years. I have a BA in Human Services, an MA in Special Education and a certificate in Positive Behavior Support. Both degrees and the certificate programs taught me things which are helpful in my everyday job and in tutoring.

I believe I am an effective English tutor for several reasons. I always tell people that if I was not working my current job, I would be an English teacher. Writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading and comprehension all fascinate me. Over the years I have noticed that students often seem to be confused by what they are learning in English classes and rather than come away feeling good about what they are learning, they come away frustrated. I believe that when I spend time with them, I help them to gain a better understanding of the material.

It is important to feel good about your work and yourself. I will provide feedback and would ask that you/your parents do the same. it is important that you feel good about the tutoring I am providing you. To ensure that students have a comfortable, secure and quiet workplace, I am willing to meet in their homes, at a library or any place they feel comfortable in and is convenient for them.
