"My name is Jack, and I'm a teacher with over 10 years of experience in New York City. I taught a range of subjects before choosing English Language Arts. I have also taught on the college level. I have a Masters in Creative Writing, a Bachelors in Theatre, and I've completed honors level graduate work in English Education. In addition to teaching, I'm a published poet and playwright and an experienced stage director and editor.
I have a range of experiences as a student to draw on as an educator, including public and boarding school, alternative college, and urban graduate school. I also studied in London, where I experienced a theatre immersion program. I encourage students to co-author their education, and work to make students feel comfortable and supported, to best foster authentic learning.
Every student has the potential to be outstanding, whether they are naturally disciplined, or reluctant learners. As a graduate student, I have conducted supervised research into various learning styles and am capable of assessing students' aptitude for English and their natural learning style. I customize lessons according to the individual needs of each student.
I consider being an educator a great responsibility as well as a wonderful opportunity. I'm passionate about cultivating enthusiasm for English in my students, as literature and literacy help foster enthusiasm for life-long learning.
