"If you are looking for a tutor who believes that your student deserves to achieve success academically, then I am pleased to meet you! Achieving academic success requires an investment of time between the tutor and the student. I invest my time by understanding the best styles of learning with which the student will be able to achieve success. In part, I utilize Gardner's Multiple Intelligences as a way to work best with the students' natural skills and abilities.

After an initial meeting with the student and any others involved, we will then be able to create a lesson plan to utilize the skills and abilities of the student in order for them to maintain academic success. I utilize two types of models, both by Lev Vygotsky, to manage this focus.

First, in order to create a proper learning environment, a "Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)" must be established. This includes limiting background noise or having soothing background noise, for example. It also includes limiting distractions and/or providing a specific and consistent learning environment each time.

The second Vygotsky model I use is Scaffolding. When evaluating each lesson, I focus on the basic masteries already achieved, development of critical skills and knowledge, and the mood/temperament/energy of the student at the time of the lesson. At that point a level of learning is created, and used as a scaffold to build upon with the next lesson.

Education includes a BS in Political Science from the University of Oregon and Post-Graduate credits in secondary education from Pacific University. Experience includes 6 years as an educator working with middle and high school students, as well as special needs students. Four years as an independent tutor, and two years as an academic tutor.
