"I am a friendly, neighborhood history teacher that mixes structure, content, effort, and humor into my time with students. While my tutoring is valued for any student, I am particularly skilled at bringing the less than enthused student to the subject of history, and the other social studies domains. I have 15 years of certified and classroom and consultant experience both here and abroad, and hold permanent NJ Teaching Certificates in Elementary and Secondary Social Studies. I am three-year grant recipient of Woodrow Wilson Teaching American History, am involved with non-profit educational efforts in support of history and civics education, and run a nationally-endorsed civic education non-profit.

I teach to instill a sense of curiosity and, while perhaps not necessarily a "joy" of learning, at least a competent tolerance of learning. The skills and content are tough at the beginning, but become easier as success is broken into attainable steps and behaviors. These habits form over time and can be used on other subjects. I expect to get the results intended within six to ten hours, at which time the student should have reached the goals set at the outset of the tutoring. While ongoing and periodic support can be arranged, my goal is to develop a self-sufficiency that bolsters student competence and confidence, and mitigates the need for a tutor.
