"I am a experienced test prep tutor specializing in the SAT and ACT. I focus primarily on test taking skills and techniques in addition to content review. My most successful students are committed to practice and content review outside of individual sessions so tutoring time can be focused on problem solving. In addition to test prep, I have tutored high school and college students in reading, writing, math and science. I have taken all pre-med courses and maintained a 3.8 average (gen chem, physics, orgo, bio) for those of you looking for help in basic STEM pre-reqs.
I am also available for parents of younger children who are looking to establish effective, yet fun and engaging study habits. I have worked as a pre-k teacher, and have been trained by the Washington DC school district to be an effective elementary/middle school tutor. I also worked as a supplemental educational instructor in Miami Dade while I earned my degree. I am particularly interested in creating interest in STEM fields for young children through active play ie. building basic robots.
For parents of children with specials needs: I have been trained in teaching young children from the National Association for the Education of Young Children and I currently volunteer with organizations in Tallahassee that work with developmentally disabled adults. I have worked with children and adults with special needs through my time as a pre-K teacher and elementary school tutor. I have techniques for teaching children with special needs that include incorporating tactile experiences, creating a comfortable and predictable environment, adapting areas of interest to fit the lesson, establishing routine, and exercising patience. I feel the most important part of teaching students with special needs is exploring different styles of learning and readjusting study habits to fit the individual while creating a caring enjoyable educational experience." less...
